++%3C%21--StartFragment--%3E++%3Cp+class%3D%22MsoNormal%22%3E%3Cu%3EThe+curious+incident+of+the+dog+in+the+night-time%3C%2Fu%3E+was+not+what+I+had+expected+when+I+first+began+reading+the+book.+The+author+Mark+Haddon%2C+tells+the+story+through+the+eyes+of+a+mathematically-gifted+autistic+15+year-old+named+Christopher+Boone.+Like+many+autistic+children%2C+Christopher+finds+it+difficult+to+socially+interact+with+those+around+him.+Logic+to+him+is+the+most+important+factor+in+solving+any+problem%3B+for+him%2C+these+problems+range+from+solving+a+simple+math+problem+to+avoiding+long+conversations.+Simplicity+and+stability+are+his+way+of+life%3B+without+them%2C+he+feels+the+urgent+to+correct+things+in+a+logical+way.+I+immediately+noticed+that+he+liked+to+be+certain+of+things+from+the+beginning.+Haddon+starts+by+having+Christopher+tell+us+of+how+Siobhan%2C+his+teacher%2C+had+taught+him+emotions+since+he+was+a+little+kid.+He+began+by+showing+him+pictures+of+faces+with+basic+emotions+such+as+being+happy%2C+sad%2C+or+angry.+But+after+Siobhan+began+trying+to+explain+to+him+that+people+can+demonstrate+how+they+are+feeling+through+their+facial+expressions%2C+Christopher+became+confused+and+did+not+want+to+continue+learning.+He+tells+us+of+how+he+asks+people+what+they+are+feeling+when+he+is+unsure+himself.+If+they+do+not+reply%2C+he+simply+walks+away%2C+again+showing+his+fear+of+incertitude.+Everything+has+to+go+in+a+certain+%E2%80%9Crational%E2%80%9D+order+for+him%3B+there+is+not+in+between.+For+example%2C+Christopher+likes+the+color+red+but+absolutely+hates+yellow.+That+being+said%2C+if+on+his+way+to+school+he+sees+several+yellow+cars+in+a+row%2C+then+that+day+becomes+a+%E2%80%9Cblack+day%2C%E2%80%9D+which+means+that+he+cannot+speak+to+anyone+at+school.+It+was+after+finding+this+out+about+Christopher+that+made+me+realize+what+must+be+one+of+the+most+disappointing+aspects+of+autism%3A+Chris+thinks+in+a+way+that+he+considers+very+logical+but+he+never+takes+into+account+the+fact+that+his+actions+affect+others.+He+is+an+intelligent+teenager%2C+he+just+has+a+completely+different+way+of+thinking.+For+example%2C+he+goes+there+weeks+without+speaking+to+anyone.+He+also+punches+a+police+officer+because+he+feels+threatened+by+him.+To+him%2C+his+reasoning+makes+perfect+sense%3B+he+was+afraid+and+so+he+defended+himself.+Yes%2C+it+makes+sense%2C+but+it+showed+me+how+his+thinking+was+limited+when+it+came+to+taking+into+consideration+any+sense+of+consequences.+After+reading+the+book%2C+I+realized+that+the+only+way+I+can+describe+his+reasoning+was+by+simply+labeling+it+as+a+%E2%80%9C+complex+simple+way+of+thinking.%E2%80%9D+He+reasons+with+good+intention+and+excessive+amounts+of+logic%2C+but+that+simply+just+isn%E2%80%99t+the+way+to+solving+every+problem.+%3Co%3Ap%3E%3C%2Fo%3Ap%3E%3C%2Fp%3E++%3C%21--EndFragment--%3E+
